DEFAMATION STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS

One area that surprises many people and companies is that there is a time limit on responding legally via claims of defamation.

NOTE:  WE ARE NOT ATTORNEYS AND THIS INFORMATION IS PROVIDED ONLY FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES.  IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN ATTORNEY TO CONSULT YOU ON THIS MATTER, WE CAN SUGGEST EXCELLENT ATTORNEYS THAT ARE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE IN THIS AREA OF LAW.

Specifically, attorneys typically view that the defamation clock begins when the material is first posted, not when you find it.  The table below shows the different time limits for different states.

Please note, if your case falls outside of the statute of limitations, then don’t assume that you cannot be helped.   There is many different legal approaches used in solving these cases so getting appropriate legal advice is warranted, and CIS can help you get expert legal opinion by those attorneys that have demonstrated excellent track records with our clients.
